Thanks for the compliment.  I think that the Night Lords might not worship Chaos but I'm not sure.  In the Index Astartes it states that "They honour the Chaos gods as a panteon but are not truly devout themselves."  They also replace mutated limbs with cybernetics while other legions such as the Word Bearers would see it as a gift from the gods.
Index Astartes also seems to suggest that they worship their primarch Peturabo.

The phrase "use it as a tool" means that, like the Black Legion, they do not dedicate themselves to one Chaos Power.  As all Chaos Space Marines, they do worship Chaos.

I like what you wrote, Jayme, can you put some paragraphs in?  It would make it easier to follow.

I do intend to put paragraphs in it probably tonight.  However the vibe that I got from reading Storm of Iron and Dead Sky Black Sun was that they abhorrer daemons, mutation, and Chaos in general.  Although Storm of Iron is kind of crazy fluff wise for example in it the Iron Warriors travel in a stolen Tyrannid hive ship.

Edit:  After reading through some stuff I've to the conclusion that because they live in the eye of terror and they have daemon princes so they probably make sacrifices to the chaos gods and worship them in some small way.  When you say worship chaos I think of how hardcore the Word Bearers are.  So the conclusion that I've come to is that they don't worship Chaos but they are loyal to it.  In most IW fluff though their is some mention of not worshipping chaos.

yeah, there is a lot of really stupid fiction out there.  Hive ships used by chaos marines is high on the list of stupid.  Also, apparently in one book, Space Marines were beaten in hand to hand by guys with emp batons that disabled their armor.  If a guy can basically kill or disable a space marine with such a device, then there would be no more powered armor or terminator armor worn by anyone into combat.

When it comes to writing the background of a chapter or order or regiment or hive fleet or whatever, you should always keep in mind that this isn't really science fiction.  Science in 40k is considered akin to magic in fantasy battle.  It is basically fantasy with guns.  Gothic fantasy with undead robots, space elves, space orks, and humanity fighting not only the other races, but fighting against it's own nature (i.e. chaos and the different emotions that they represent).

Thanks for the paragraphs, by the way!

Post subject: 61st Varlustdran Regiment
This is where I will post fluff about my guard regiment.  At the moment I don't have much about the regiment but I do have quite a bit about their homeworld.

Varlustdra is a world that is choked by poison.  It is a deathworld and a world of eternal darkness.  The poison gases of the atmosphere block out almost any light from the sun.  What does get through is just enough to bathe everything in a sick gray-green light during the brightest part of the day. Visibility is at best 100 yds.  Once darkness falls it is impossible to see without technological aid.  Just to be outside a re-breather is required.  Though during the day the gases lethality is negated during the day though it is still deadly.  At night it requires advanced military re-breathers to be outdoors.

At night the creatures emerge from beyond the cities.  The people of the world call them Death Reapers or Night Stalkers.  They wait just beyond the cities for night to fall, which is when they emerge from the shadows and hunt for prey.  It is for this reason that the buildings on Varlustdra are so heavily fortified.  Though they still often manage to break in and slaughter the inhabitants.  No one is sure what the creatures are their are whispers that they are mutants, genestealers, daemons, or some think that they are the twisted remains of whatever inhabited the world before human colonisation and the chemical warfare that turned the world into what it is today.  It is the job of the Shadow hunters to purge these creatures from the streets of the city.  It is from these hardened warriors that the elite core of any regiment raised on Varlustdra is formed.

The only things making Varlustdra a viable world to inhabit is its mineral riches and the factories that churn out all manners of things.  The workers usually live in these fortress-factories to keep them safe from the poisonous atmosphere and whatever lives beyond the cities.  On Varlustdra their are many scattered tech-relics from the Dark Age of Technology.  The Adeptus Mechanicus often launch crusades to recover these many of these expeditions don't return.

The 61st like most Varlustran regiments specialise in night fighting and chemical warfare.  When they launch an attack it is proceded by a massive gas attack and chemical weapons.  This re-creates their poison choked homeworld and this is the environment that they specialise in.
More soon to come.
