Tim Lyons thinking about ChicagoSo, we should try and hook him up with a 'simple' deck to run. I'm thinking Stark, Bara or Targ beat down.
Stark will have more flexibility but I don't know.

Im not sure "simple" is Tim's cup of tea. Do we need another room?

No room for other lords or kings here...Tim Lyons reigns supreme...

He's trying it on for size even as we speak!

There are some very clever designs in the deck but I don't see how it stays on top. There were a couple of times Tim could wipe his opponents hand. Then he didn't have any follow up board control. One of the things we looked at changing was...
PLOTS-
Benjens Cache (to plots out of)
CHARACTERS-
ADD- Reek, Enemy Informer (or any high gold dude)
DROP- Poachers (unless more doomed is added), Weapon Smith
LOCATIONS-
Need more influence if you want to Plots consistantly on turn zero
EVENTS- (Need another "removal" effect)
Lannister Pays their Debts?
You've Killed the Wrong Dwarf?
The changes are minor but I think significant. I'd also look at Gold for Bribes and The Lion's Mouth.
|
ShivesMcShivers

Ok, cut 2 "the north" for 2 Western Fiefdoms, cut a weaponsmith for reek, a weaponsmith for a 2nd tywins host and a poacher for a defenders of kings landing?

First things first, I do not know how to play this game
I played three games with this deck, two against a Stark deck that did alot of military challanges and stuff, one against a Targ deck. I lost both of the Stark match ups and won against the Targ deck. In the Targ match up I had Golden Tooth Guard and The Weeping Water on set up with Plots Within Plots in my hand so I could do Rule by Decree and Wraiths in the Midst as my first turn and draw two extra cards on top of that, which was pretty sweet. I didnt really get any influence providing stuff in the two games vs stark.
These are the cards that I didnt seem to use much.
Lannisport Weaponsmith
Lannisport Steward
Ser Amory's Poachers
Arrest and Imprison
Again I was likely not playing this deck correctly. It seemed like I came out pretty strong, got up to about 9-11 power pretty easily and then lost to Edard Stark, in my two losses.

Which is why it may need Benjen's Cache as a plot (tutor for anything). Outfox seemed to be a neccesity as well.
|
ShivesMcShivers
|
Eddard is nutty and I kinda thought it would rough against Stark. Queen Cersei's command is the money card in that matchup. The key to Arrest and Imprison is keeping in mind that it will cancel both triggered and non triggered char and LOCATION abilities. Shut those barracks down!
|
Vitamin T
|
It may well be that the lack of use I got out of that card came from my unfamiliarity with both the rules of the game and the deck archtypes.
There were a few times that I had gained a big advantage i.e. they had no or few cards in hand and little in play and I was pretty sure that a plot to help them out of that situation was coming so I would play Forgotten Plans and then they used that plot to discard their hand and draw 5 cards. It seemed like it would have been amazing to put a stop to that.

Deck has definitely been performing better as I get more acclimated to playing it and AGoT in general.
What do you think about a third Better Offer? Always happy to see it. I thought that the plot that let's you search for any card was pretty solid, I liked having the ability to search for Margaery Tyrell or Queen Cersei's Command and then use Plots Within Plots to switch it out.
|
ShivesMcShivers
|
Yeah, Benjen's Cache is pretty good. I just generally dont play it unless I am playing combo oriented deck. Def worth testing though.
|
ShivesMcShivers
|
How is Forgotten Plans working? I've been thinking of replacing it with Growing Strong.
|
clu
|
We already took it out for Outfox. If myself or Pauly was playing it we'd keep the PLans. We wanted to keep the deck "simplified" for Tim.
|
ShivesMcShivers
|
I think I want growing strong in there just so I can name the deck GAT (Grow a Tyrell)
|
clu
|
We'll take a look. BTW Tim hates Fleeing to the Wall. So do I. Pauly is your only supporter. It's now a 2-2 tie!
Whose name may not be Spoken is more versitile. Fleeing will tromp 1 deck in 10. You make the call...
|
Vitamin T

Admittedly I have played against about 4 differant decks, surely not even close to the meta that is out there. I have never had Fleeing to the Wall destroy more than 1 location thus far and in general it has done 0.
TL

ShivesMcShivers

I would pick fleeing. Not because of the amount of decks it hits, but because it hits the decks that beat you. If you must cut it do it for Sacrificed.
|
ShivesMcShivers
|
Also, there is no meta. The field is 100% Rogue.
|
clu
|
Here's what I think we'll see...
Standard Lannister (see Kennons most recent deck on Tzumain)
Stark Traitors
Standard Martell (Locked in the Tower ad naseum)
Those are just my guesses. Now that will only account for 6-8 of the decks there. That leaves 30 others that we don't know about!
|
ShivesMcShivers
|
I know that there will be a couple GJ/Martell uber cancel decks there. Shiek and AJ are going to be playing I think. Also I know of 2 GJ king of rock and salt decks that will most likely be there. Baratheon will be there both in weenie and midgame versions.

That's funny. I was just going to build a Greyjoy/Martel deck. hmmm. Maybe a Lanni/Stark deck or vice versa.

I keep thinking martell/stark with Barraks dreadfort and DM+IP would be nuts.

Trying to work on this as we speak. I've also heard of a player... (he can be quite the wrecking ball) running a mean Eyrie/Bolton deck. And a couple Bara decks.
And I'll confirm at least AJ will be playing Greyjoy/Martell (unless he has a bad loss in the next week and changes his mind. Hopefully after sunday I'll have a better idea about what's being played by the crew up here.

I havent liked the Enemy Informers. Insidious Ways has been pretty mediocre, I normally can only draw like 1 card off of it, still it is nice from time to time.

Played some more games yesterday, did pretty well in most of them but had some troubles with a lanister army deck one game.

I put the deck together and played it against Nick's rather agressive Targ/True Queen (basically Targ/Martell treaty w/o the treaty) and i can tell I haven't played with WHC in too long. Though I am glad I PwP into WHC before Plot reveal to avoid the Outfox.
I never got Margaery to trigger, so i was wondering about 5KE Jaime or Joff.

Seems like Jamie and Joff would be a bit more efficient. Lyons should try it out.

I still like the idea of Margery. I ran marg in a bara recursion deck WITH joff, red viper and varys. she was always a welcome sight even when I had a lord to be discarded.
Granted I was running recursion so it didn't hit me as hard. I think you can still run her with one or two other lords.

OK, here's the deal. Stark (any high military deck [heck, even my targ non-tweeked deck]) gives it fits. Need to find answer...
Statement- Big guys are a problem.
Solution- Bigger guys (I don't really see any reason) tywin?
Solution- Kneel effects (reasonable) Here comes the Queen, distraction?
Solution- Location disruption (seems better) burned fields? high tide?
weigh in.

Yeah heavy military and just large dudes have been a problem. The decks that have been the most difficult to beat for me have been:
Bar Power Rush
Stark
Lanister Armies
It does well against more control focused decks mostly because of the discard and it does well against large amounts of small characters with the Bribes and the removal plots.

What about adding in Small Council Joffrey and You Killed the wrong dwarf?
It would give me 6 small council events that would let me discard stuff like Rob and Eddard Stark and it is an event that I could play pre-plot reveal on the first turn to get down to 6 cards.
Worst thing I can think of with the You've killed the wrong dwarf is that I'm pretty sure that both edard and Rob are Nobles right?
Additionally, I dont have a good handle on the timing in this game...can you play YKWD on someone with no power and then trigger Joffrey to kill them?

Thanks for all of your help everyone. I had fun at the Chicon and I appreciate everyones advice and help in play testing. It surely made a big differance since I did ok with this deck going 4-2 with one of my loses coming against the eventual tourney winner and I did terrible in the draft where I had no help or advice.
