Seizing the Initiative - Following a Battleplan (Tactics)

So I'm in the middle of a 2000 point game with Nate (on hiatus @ CHG, we couldn't finish before closing) that I'm not feeling very confident about. This leads me to post a simple tactica on a couple concepts that I usually follow when playing WFB (that I haven't been in this game).

I find that one of the more successful tactics I use to win WFB matches is to have a clear "Battleplan" from the very beginning and follow through with it. This means a clear deployment strategy and a clear objective for any given army I may face.

An example of this is utilizing a "refused flank". Committing to the refused flank means deploying weaker units to one side while putting stronger units on the other.

Following through with this or any strategy is important, I've found that when I'm simply reacting to what my opponent is doing (especially during deployment) that I'm probably going to lose. Likewise, if you force your opponent to react to what you're doing, you're probably going to win.

A key to being successful with this is knowing your enemy. This doesn't mean reading your opponent's army book before the battle, but it does mean having an idea of what kind of deployment and units you're likely to face.  With this knowledge in hand, one can plan ahead more effectively.

I know some of these concepts are simple, but even these most basic battlefield principles will really help you if you're new to the game.
