Secluded Waystation and paying for nothingAs Seth and I found out at Kotei, you cannot bow the SW to pay for nothing at the end of your opponent's turn just to generate a wealth token. However, after doing some digging I found you can use it to overpay for a 0 gold cost 'anything' (such as an action). It's stupid, but it still works the same way... just earlier in the turn.

You've been able to overpay gold costs since the game first sprang into existence.

Very true, but we both had our paying for nothing smacked down on us at Kotei... just posting the way around it.

So between this thread and the one on AEG about searching for a legacy you know you don't have, I am left wondering how you have this extra money that you're not using in the early game when this might matter? Cause if this is happening in the late game then you should just be winning and not dicking around.

The question originated with the use of Exchange of Hostages, which I have been tinkering with in one of my decks. Ya know... first turn flip yields two benikas and two hachigoros. I'd gladly give up 3g on a stronghold bow to ensure those 4 peeps get shuffled back into the main portion of my deck and off the bottom.

Ok with the Exchange of Hostages thing if your doing it on turn one then your legacy will still be in the deck. Unless you flipped your legacy(s) into the province with the exchange. If that happened why in the world would you legacy hunt just to shuffle? You'd be gold screwing yourself and be behind the rest of the game. Then it wont matter if Benika and Hachigoro are shuffled into the deck.

For my part, I liked to pay for nothing with a secluded early on if I have Yasuki Jinn-Kuen out, then straighten it. Now I just pay for weapons and then straighten it.

Nah, it's more for a turn three shuffle than anything.
Turn one, exchange and grab seat. Turn two buy two holdings. Turn three, buy one holding and a cheap peep or two holdings, and bow the SH to get the shuffle. A Liony deck with Hatchetman and Benikas sitting at the bottom of a deck is most likely a dead Liony deck.
Actually, originally asked the question for a new deck that uses neither, but that really needs to see Asa early... thus the 3 exchanges to get the draw I want, and the Promo from the last IH to get the Honor boost.
