Noel - when do you wanna play?  And how many points?
Sand

how did i challenge someone if I wasn't there?
Nipponb

Chris,

Lets do 2000 points.  As for a time to play I will have to get back with you on that.  I need to set up a bloodbowl game this week and that one must be played.  If I can get my bloodbowl game for Sunday, I would be interested in playing on Friday night around 6:30.

Noel
vegeta7913

So, Harrison, you have challenged I.  And I must destroy you!  When would you like to learn about losing?
And Nate, my old nemesisss, how's next saturday sound?
Blood Bowl Wizard

Chuck,

We selected an opponent for you randomly. We only had to do that one other time this season, when Drop was out of town. But it worked pretty well that time. I hope you still have fun.

Jason
Trius

I will be happy to play on Saturday Mr. Drew.  How many points would you like to play?
vegeta7913

I think that I may have a spoils "tournament" to play in - depending on the number of people who show...that being said, how bout 2000 points?

wogit460

Drew, I'm busy these next two weekends with multiple graduations so would you be able to play on a weekday?
vegeta7913

um....the only day that really works will be monday, 05/18 - after say 530 pm.  How many points do you want to play?
Nipponb

Chris,

Just found out.  I need to play Bloodbowl on Friday.  If no one shows up again for painting, then I can play on Sunday.  Should I be doing a painting class I can play Tuesday, Friday or next Sunday.  Any of these days work for you?

Noel
wrekka

Noel- I can do this saturday or tues-fri next week
Vitamin T

What is the class this sunday?

I have to run the spoils event but I might be interested afterwards.
Nipponb

I have more or less given up on the idea of set classes.  I will be at the store to do some painting and offering advice.  A fun time will be had by all.
If there are questions or you wish to get an idea for something please let me know.

Pete had the balls to use wizards against me, and pulled out a marginal victory.

Congrats.

Thanks Jason. This was an interesting and fun battle that went from what looked like you kicking the crap out of me, to me kicking the crap out of you to possibly a draw. A full spectrum of emotions.

I figured i'd try the unexpected and play heavy magic. It worked out for the most part. The hand of Mork came down from the sky more than a few times to grab up a hapless dwarf and crush him between his great green fingers.

I spent 140 gold in our game, not that there will be another round...

I look forward to the next season.

Nate Massacred Drew.  Now I am in a quandry.  I cannot win this league, so why play my last game?  If Bryan massacres me, he beats Nate, and maybe Chris Cloud, too (I think they have the same size empires).

The problem I have is that I am very unhappy with the way the winner is determined in Mighty Empires.  I have lead the league for two rounds, and I am now in a situation where winning and having the biggest empire is a detriment.

I think we should change the win condition now, and here is my reasoning:

We didn't  have any rules in place for events or challenges where a player missed the meeting and couldn't be reached by phone.  We made up rules on the spot to cover those issues.  Making up a rule to change the win condition, which many feel is not right, wouldn't be any different.

Changing the win condition doesn't qualify as a mid season change, because the winner isn't declared mid season.  The season currently ends when an Empire builds to ten points.  I think that every empire should be allowed to build, and after all empires are built the largest empire over 10 points should be the winner.

Ties would be resolved like this:
Most Cities
Most Castles
Most Tiles
Most Mines
Overall record
Play off match
Trius

I used all my gold.  As to Steve's point, until 2 weeks ago, I had not even read the rules to know how the final winner was determined.  I was surprised that the first one to 10 wins.  Since I'm in contention for the overall win, I'll refrain from any sort of vote on a rules change this season but I would love to discuss this for next season.  BTW mr. Drop, we decided on 1500 but didn't set up a date.  When would you like to play?

Nate
vegeta7913

yeah, net deck Nate massacred me with his shootie chaos army.  I used like, all my gold.
Blood Bowl Wizard

Steve,

This league is about having fun playing Warhammer. If the only reason you can find to play a game, is for the chance to have your name on the trophy, then I suggest that you just quit.

Jason
Groomie

This has nothing to do with a trophy.  The change I suggested doesn't mean I'll win this round, in fact, more than likely Nate would.  I don't understand how your only response to my suggestion is to insult me.
Blood Bowl Wizard

I didn't want to insult you, I just find this situation very frustrating.

I am sorry,

Jason
Pete

I'm fine playing mighty empires the way it's written in the rules. The first to 10 points wins. It's easy, it's casual and it's not particularly fair for someone leading in the final rounds of the game but I'm willing to make that compromise for simplicty's sake.

The easiest thing I think we should consider is a play-off for anyone at 10 points or more. I think everyone would find that the most satisfying.

-Peter
Groomie

The rules as written mean that having the biggest empire is bad.  That seems a bit counter intuitive.  There is no benefit for having the largest empire.  Let me repeat that:  NO BENEFIT.  A player is much better off building mines and raiding, which far surpasses the bonus 100 points you get for having the largest empire.

In addition, mathematically speaking, the current rule encourages players to not care or even not play when it becomes impossible to win.  How is that fun?

There are several rules that we have already changed.  For example, the rules also say that when you run out of events, start over.  That isn't a good rule either.  We all agreed that giving the largest empire access to scouts, building boom, or land grab was silly.

I think that we can come up with three house rules that can make the issues that have come up this season go away:

1.  The 8 smallest empires get events.

2.  Remove the "sudden death" rule and allow all players to build.  The largest empire wins, with ties being determined by cities, castles, and record.

3.  A forfeit rule/policy.

This isn't quantum physics.  We can have a low key, laid back campaign that is fun AND has rules that make sense.

Especially since you aren't leading and you have a chance to win this round?

Sorry, but your post sounds self serving.  I have already proposed a simple tiebreak system.  One that, if implemented, would give Nate a win rather than me this season.  Your argument seems to say: Having the largest empire is bad.

This is Mighty Empires, not 2nd or 3rd Mightiest Empires.

I think that a play off would be ok, but harder to manage in the case of a three way (or more) tie.

Another option would be to allow the Conquer and Build phase to be done in largest to smallest order, though I feel that puts too much power in the hands of the lead positions.

Steve, you must not know me very well. To claim that when I'm agreeing with what you said "sounds self serving" is not only obnoxious, it's like throwing my idea back in my face. Thanks a lot. Clearly I have never shown rational empathy towards anything.

Just because I can't win this round doesn't mean that I can't imagine myself in first place (as you currently are).

I like that this game is "casual", in fact I think that attitude should stand as an example for all games of this nature to follow. These games should be fun and part of that fun is making the game a "win win" where everyone playing enjoys themselves.

You have a legit claim that the system breaks down when the clear winner has already been decided before everyone has finished their games in the final round. You've offered some good ideas. My offering of an alternative idea in no way is a "challenge" to your idea, it's just another suggestion.

I'm fine with discussing this for next season. I think we should stick with what we have for now.

Wow....and now, suddenly, reading this thread, I have no desire to play in this "casual" and "low key" environment.
I'm playing my final match with Harrison tonight then I'm out.

Sad I'm sorry drew.  If you want to play non league based games against the MIGHTY TOMB KINGS.. err... more like 'lil tomb kings' then I'd be glad to play!
vegeta7913

Jason,
I'm not quitting WFB, I'm just not gonna play in a competitive league setting.  I'm more than happy to play for fun, which is what I expect when you and I tag team Chris and Nate, Dwarves vs Chaos baby! (and Tag Team is meant to be like fighting, not like..other stuff you find on the interweb.)  Initially, at least from my memory, this was set up for a group of friends to hang out, play some games and give it a "context" rather than just a whole series of one offs.  For me, it was a chance on a Sunday afternoon to hang around with my friends.  Of course, like any dice game, I became upset with dice rolls (who hasn't....maybe Harrison, but he is young and life hasn't made him a cynic yet..or has it {a different thread will be established to determine if Harrison is an cynic yet}.) Now, I find that Sunday afternoons when we meet is just an incessant roar in my ears of rules lawyering and whose broken (meaning uber good, not thrown or not put together) army or lists is worse.  Just not my thing.  Life's to short, so I'll take my broken dwarves (literally, that damn gyrocopter blade keeps snapping off) and self destructive Skaven and just play for fun.
Oh yeah, I SV'd Harrison.  Go shieldless Thunderers holding off heavy cav for 2 turns to give the Ironbreakers the flank charge!
Drew B.
PS.  Chris,
I'm up for the Kings whenever.  Let me know if you want your bones gnawed or mashed.
PSS.  This is not a negative or positive review of the Mighty Empires setting or the current CHG league or any of its members.  Just me explaining myself so people know where I'm coming from (if any once cares).
Nipponb

Played Chris tonight.  Things did not go well for the Chaos.  Skaven magic won out.  We massacred Chris.  I spent 190 gold and Chris spent 250 gold.

Noel
wrekka

That game was brutal.  By turn 3, i had lost hope.
It's rough to see a roughly 100 point guy, knock out 300 points of chaos with one spell that casts on a 10 or something.  Ouch.
Well played Noel - revenge is indeed yours!
Groomie

i am using all my gold against Bryan.

Only due to horrible rolling. i think if that centaur on dryad action had played out like it should have i wouild have lost my left flank.
Groomie

From what Nate told me, it wasn't just bad die rolls.  We should get an Ogre trophy for most "Bone Headed Decision".  The story is definitely more entertaining the way Nate tells it.
Bryan_Lord

I spent 165 gold in my game against Steve...Chuck had best fear the other 17 gold I have for him!!!
Blood Bowl Wizard

We should have this season's final meeting on Sunday at 1:00.

Season 3 final meeting is Sunday at 1:00. We will talk about next season, and some possible rules changes.
