Hi all. This is Nick, (If you haven't met me yet, I'm the guy who painted the Harlequin for the painting competition). I wanted to host a miniature painting clinic for everyone interested. In this clinic I wanted to focus on some techniques that are essential for the beginner and expert alike. In particular demonstrating how to paint flat areas of a miniature, paint consistancy, and perhaps some detail shading. The primary focus will be to paint solid colors on a figure so that a clean bold coat of paint is applied without obscuring any detail. This is a basic technique, but it is often either ignored or never taught. For a change I will not go over drybrushing, though this is a fantastic technique it is usually the only technique I see taught at painting clinics- so this clinic is especially for anyone who is looking for a change!

I would like everyones opinion on what they would like to see at the clinic (keeping in mind we would only have an evening). Perhaps most important is when said painting clinic would be held. Friday night is out... we don't want to compete with magic players for space. Post a reply on any opinions and especially suggestions for day and time. I'll probably wait a week or two waiting for all replies before a decision is made, so keep that in mind when suggesting dates.

hey. i would be interested in learning more. sat evening would be good for me. what i would like to see is, alot of people when they paint a army or bloodbowl team (i am working on this) paint in dark colours, my next team is going to be in yellows, oranges, and white as the major colours. and i know sometimes these are difficult to do well. and would also like some help with shading and highlighting, and using inks and washes. hope you can get a time when you can do this. thanks.

I would be interested in showing up for that. Any night is good for me post 6pm during the week, and any time on the weekends.

The April the 12th is the running favorite so far, I think I could agree to that. I will need to clear my work schedual, but don't think that would be a problem. As for supplies, they will largely be provided by me. I will have brushes and paints, I also have some space marines for everyone to paint. If you wish to bring your own miniatures you are welcome; however, the lessons I had in mind are illustrated very well with the miniatures I will be providing. If you did want to bring your own miniatures, try for figures that have large undetailed areas (like spacemarines). Miniatures which are very detailed and busy will make it difficult to teach these techniques, and will take far longer to finish. In other words, learn on a trooper, then apply what you have learned to your character Wink

I think someone asked if I could teach them how to use inks, good question. I don't think I will focus on inks this time; however, if there is time towards the end I may go over it briefly. Inks are in a league of their own, they can be used with simple techniques for great effect, they can also be used more subtly for amazing advanced techniques.... but if used poorly can look horrible. Inks could be a days lesson on thier own, which may be a possibility if this goes well. Keep posting messages, especially about date and time. Looking forward to it![/u]

since we have established the date as the 26th, we need a time. I will be there the entire day, so anyone can come in at any time. However, we should probably schedual an official time for the main lessons. evening has sounded good so far. post a reply and get a cookie.
