Newbie/Learning Decks

Seth and I have been talking about getting some newbie/learning decks so that we can start doing demos in the store and try and snag some new players into the group.

I began yesterday by putting together 30/30 decks. Right now I have 2 made up for Lion, and 1 each for Unicorn, Scorpion, and Maw's Grave. The thing that is going to hamper this is having supplies for personalities and especially holdings (LEGACY!!) and Strongholds.

What we would like to ultimately be able to do is to be able to have enough decks on hand that we can supply people with them and then just give them to the players who give the game a try. We're not looking for Rares, but we do need Strongholds badly and any commons or uncommons people do not want or need. Or, if you wish, put together a couple of 30/30 decks, ideally with a legacy holding or two, a stronghold, and a champion if you have extras. Perhaps we can figure something out so that we can have everyone bring them in next time they come around the store?

I do need to get either a ToD or UP for the Unicorn deck I put together. Other than that I'm tending to throw in a cheap rare or three into each deck.... like Rikaku, Yu-Pan and the Ancestral Blade for the Uni deck.

One guideline I would say is make it an easy deck to play and understand but with enough varying effects to get newbies used to some of the various rules or the game.

Another possibility we ought to consider is a box of extra Rare personalities, actions, spells, holdings and whatnot that might be for use by anyone. I'm not talking the expensive ones, but rather ones that have been taking up space in binders that you'll never use and someone else might want? I know I'm sitting on about 6 copies of Hida Sozen exp that will never see play, but a new Crab player may want 2-3 for deck building and whatnot.

Mayhaps we can talk Jerod into finding space for it somewhere behind the counter so people aren't just grabbing handfuls? Perhaps a free 10 card draw for newbs to the game who want to get into playing, but for others... eg those of us who have been around the game a while it could be a one for one type swap thing.

Just trying to brainstorm here so we don't have newbs to the game getting smacked because their decks just plain suck and they don't have the cards or cash to improve them.

Or I suppose we could always just give people what they need... hell I tend to do that anyway.
