Model Stripping

Hey, I got some simple green to use to strip some old models.  I was wondering what a good dilution ratio is and how long I should soak them.  Also I am wondering if its safe to use with plastic.
Groomie

I never dilute it.  It is safe for you to handle undiluted, it just has a strong but not altogether unpleasant smell.  Make sure you have a container that has you can seal.  I use an old 5-Quart Ice Cream bucket.

Put your figs in the container, dump in the simple green and let it sit overnight.  Use an old toothbrush to remove the paint from the model.  The terminator of yours that I stripped only needed a few hours to get clean, but the longer you leave it in, the easier it will be to clean.

Thanks Steve.

I found that pinesol works extremely well for metal models, however, it is NOT safe for plastic models I found, it makes the plastic extremly soft.

I recently used brake fluid I found it worked very well.  I tried simple green but it didnt seem to get everything off.  The gold paint on my terminators just wouldnt come off.

i can concur the brake fluid. Safe for pewter/plastic. works pretty well. KEEP IT AWAY FROM PETS. they end up barfing in your shoe if they decide it tastes good. f*cking cat...

Does the simple green work on plastic wihtout ill effects Steve?
Groomie

Yes.  Plastics are safe with simple green.  It is also environmentally friendly, meaning it is safe to dump in the sink.  I have heard that brake fluid can weaken or rubberize plastics.  I have had limited success in the past with Pinesol, but found that you have to use a plastic container.  It didn't react with the figs, but it did react with the aluminum pan I was soaking them in.
