Painting contest?I was thinking that we could have a painting/modeling contest. The winner would get 2 empire points, second and third place would each get one empire point.
Everyone would start with an unpainted figure during round 3. Judging would take place during round 4, and points would be awarded during round 5, or something like that.
What do you guys think?

sounds cool

I think that's a fine idea. It also encourages some painting which pretty much everyone always has more to do of
Who would be the judge? Would we all cast votes? How about an inpartial judge like Jerod?

Sounds good to me. One thing I thought of that would be kind of cool... set a point value that needs to be painted.
For instance:
Everyone must paint a fresh set of 200 points worth of models... or something along those lines. This doesnt even have to be for empire points.. it would just be cool to do.

I thought that we would each pick a cool model that we already own unpainted, or order a new one from CHG.
Then we could ask Jerod to judge, or ask an impartial guest judge to join him. Kind of like his previous contest. Maybe leave the models in a case at the store for a week or two, to show how cool our league is to others who might want to join us.

That is my favorite part. I'm in. Problem is - the model I want to paint I use in all of my lists.. bah - I'll come up with something.

Well, in preparation for doing this I put together my Orc Warlord with Wyvern Model. After a lot of pinning, glue and grey stuff, the model is about 80 percent done. I need to find something to put on the base to raise him up about an inch (he's too close to the ground and will bump into any unit he attacks).
So, hopefully I'll have my unpainted-but-assembled Wyvern ready to enter in the contest in a few weeks

Result of Bretonnia vs. Greenskins - Solid Victory Greenskins.
I spent 160 gold for the 1000 point match.
Some thoughts on the battle.
For this being Kaufman's 2nd game ever of WFB, I thought he played pretty well. I know that for my 2nd game, I was comepletely clueless and Chris had some questions about stuff he didn't know but he's learning much faster than I did.
I brought all of my anti-heavy-armor warmachines because I knew he'd be bringing knights. The Doom Diver was probably the biggest force of destruction, causing 4 casualties on the first turn in one of these heavy cavalry units. My Orc Shaman then summoned the mighty foot of Gork who went on the warpath and stomped on his other knight unit and killed a few more heavy horsemen.
Following these early successes, it looked like this battle would be over quickly. Those who came to observe, soon saw what a difference bad rolls can make for who's ever fighting the greenskins. My Doom Diver misfired and exploded with gobin crew and giant rubber band flying high in the sky. My Orc Shaman succumbed to the power of the waaaagh and blew green fire out of his ears, eventually dying to a deflected spell. My goblin shaman was also overtaken by the power of the waaaagh and went stupid with frenzy as great green fireworks exploded out of all of his orifaces.
My Black Orc Bigboss proceeded to stop several arguments that broke out in his unit by killing rowdy ursurpers with a great blow of his mailed fist and bringing Da Boyz back in line.
Some things I learned: Do not underestimate the Bretonnian Paladin, even completely by himself! His unit that had been whittled down to a standard bearer and himself, held off an entire unit of Orc Boys and goblin archers (who had them flanked) for the final 3 turns of the game. My Black Orc Bigboss cowered away from challenges while the rest of da boys could do nothing to injure the mighty knights. Kaufman did roll double ones to hold on the first round of combat (which he had to), but held with only a few minuses to their leadership in the following rounds.
In the end, this epic combat was what prevented the game from being a massacre in favor of the greenskins.
Even with all the random nonsense and bad dice rolls on both sides, I had a good time. I think Chris did too.

That guy is a B E A S T! When i saw him single handedly demolish my 350 point Knights unit in 1 round of combat, my jaw hit the table, and then my face followed it as he walked over to my warriors, and had them for lunch.

Jason,
Bryan and I played our match yesterday. I somehow ( and I have no idea how) managed to draw with those dark elves. I guess having that unit of slaves to soak up some of those hits really helped out. But damn, those dark elves are ranged bad asses. the only time I got locked in combat was when my rat ogres charged his cold ones. Otherwise, it was, advance, take casualties, run away, reform, advance, take casualties, run away. Repeat 6 times for a very frustrating game.

Chris C. vs. Jason Knox:
I lost to the mighty Chaos Daemons. This one possibly the toughest matchup I've ever played. The fact that everything he had, was equal to, or better than what i had in all regards: saving throws, magic, melee, range... I want a rematch!
Jason won with a Solid Victory!
