Drag Me to Hell Review

3 out of 5 Light Cycles

First off, this isn't your regular horror movie. It's a Sam Raimi film. That's right, cue the boomsticks and forgettable lines like "I'm gonna get me some!". There are plenty of jump out of your seat moments created with copious amounts of zoom ins and sudden flashes across the screen.

Where the true genius lies is in the non-horror sequences. Over the top fight scenes and disturbing images involving vomit and kittens.

The synopsis is pretty forward. Young woman pure of intentions is struggling to get that next promotion. New co-worker challenges her at every turn. Stealing her clients and being an-all-around sleeze. He really comes into his own when he admonishes her in front of their boss by accusing her of not bringing him the right lunch order.

So, she needs to show she has back bone and doesn't extend a loan to an elderly gypsy woman. If nothing else, we learn our lesson. If an elderly gypsy woman needs money. Just give it to her! Enter first sweet fist-a-cuffs. If you've heard me talk about this flick this is the part with the dentures. Priceless gumming.

The film continues on it's merry way with our heroine now under a curse that will Drag Her to Hell in three days. Her husband is portrayed handily by the Mac Guy from the commercials. It's hard to imagine him as someone's stable husband instead of hawking merchandise.

The rest entails; meeting the parents while hearing voices, an excorsism with clueless nameless guy who's 'OK' and one unfortunate kitten.

The flick runs an interesting gauntlet of comedy/shock value. I was entertained but wouldn't pay another 9 bucks to see it in the theatre. I highly recommend it for a rental with friends! Just make sure you're not eating cake or really anything else for that matter while viewing this shlock!
