i bet that was about as much fun as watching paint dry...

Jake

Actually I thought it was a very fun game. We had pretty differently laid out armies and it was fun to try and use those differences to our advantage. Bout the only thing that really refused to die were his 2 lords. I think each of them got up 3 times.

heh, cool. either of you have a monolith?
|
Jake
|
Yea, Josh had one that he Deep Striked right into the middle of my force on turn two. I ended up shooting everything I had at it and only managing to score one weapon destroyed and one immobilize. Luckily for me though he didn't get to do much damage before I warped/ran my army away from his immobilized Monolith. Best part was that I had 2 squads and a lord hiding right next to it behind a fruit stand. This was no ordinary fruit stand however. This was the Fruit Stand of Salvation, or so it has become known. Poor Josh's monolith spent most of the game sitting idly in the center of my deployment zone. It did severely limit my movements though.

Evil lasguns kill poor Brood Lords. I wouldn't say it was a stomping. Luck was on my side is all. It was a good game. Playing annihilation and getting turn 6 helped my 'nids out a bit. Can't wait week 2.

I think that everyone is done with their games for week 1 so I think we can go ahead and start week 2 early.

Hi everybody, just wanted to point something out that I noticed while reviewing the scenario rules. Transports taken with a unit now take up a force organization slot from the unit type it was taken for. For example, a rhino taken for a tactical squad is a troops choice, a rhino taken for a comander and honor guard is a HQ choice. If I recal correctly this is a change from last edition, where they didn't take a slot at all. I didn't notice anyone talking about this so I figured I'd bring it up.

Are you referring to "Multiple Unit Choices" on page 92?
If so, that means in a Dawn of War scenario (for example), you can't deploy two Tactical Squads in that are both mounted in Rhinos, as that would actually be 4 troops choices. You could field one Tactical Squad and the squad's Rhino and an HQ choice. They don't take up Force Organization Slots for purposes of building an army.
I looked through the rulebook for other references to the Oganization Chart and Transports, and this rule was the closest one I could find:
Page 92 "Multiple Unit Choices"
Note that occasionally the Codexes all the player to include several units in his army at the cost of a single force organization slot (like dedicated transports, etc). Apart from being bought as a single choice, these units operate and count as separate units in all respects.
On a side note, have you shown all the new guys the firepower of your fully armed and operational Death Star...I mean Eldar?

Or alternatly does it mean that if a group of units are bought as a single force organzational selection, they are treated as separete units, rather than a unit and its dedicated transport.
Example:
Dark angels Ravenwing Attack Squad. 6 bikes, 1 assault bike, 1 land speeder.
All are purchased as a single fast attack choice, but stated in the codex that they are treated as individual squads. If bikes were going to broken into combat squads then there would be 4 squads when deployed.
VS
10 man marine squad not broken into combat squads and purchases a Rhino as a dedicated transport. When deployed all marines would be loaded into the Rhino and the Rhino deployed. This would be a single Troop selection at deployment. Once the game started the marines could leave the rhino and it would be counted as a separate unit.
I don't have my rule book handy to refrence, but it seems silly that you could not deploy a unit in a dedicated transport vs deploying say a unit of marines in a landraider (troops vs Heavy support)

The rules for Combat Squads are very clear regarding how the unit is deployed. The decision to split is made when the unit is deployed. In the example I gave, if you deployed a 10 man Tactical Squad with a Rhino, that would count as both Troops choices for Dawn of War. You could then decide to split your Tactical Squad into two Combat Squads.

that doesnt seem to make sense to me. i'll have to go over it myself and try to figure it out. maybe they will fix it in a FAQ, but who knows?

It seems pretty clear to me. The rule concerning Troops and deployment is contingent upon the scenario. The scenario is based in the 5th Edition rulebook. Combat Squads are a special rule under the Space Marine Codex.
Don't hold your breath on an FAQ or an Errata. Games Workshop does not provide them very often, and updates them even less.

After discusing the wording of the rules during a league game, we figured out the rules I brought up were for deployment of forces in scenarios rather than army composition, my bad Ah well, guess I coulda fielded 5 tanks in my last game after all.....next time
