Hey All-

Here's the scoop. This will be a permanent sticky to help you folks plan tournaments.

Sat. April 12th Constructed 40/40 (Git ready f'rnsome Koteis!) Uncut sheet for prizes.
Sat. April 26th Nebraska Kotei GOOD LUCK...go mantis...
Sat. May 3rd Sealed 30/30 Banzai!! $20 (now with pack support) Hopefully lv 2 prizes will have arrived.

For May we need to hammer out Words & Deeds release date (May 16th-26th). WARNING AGOT national tournament May 24/25th!!

Just a reminder: The Banzai sealed tournament is Saturday, May 3 at 3:00 p.m. $20 gets you the necessary materials.

Also: How does Memorial Day (Monday, May 26) work for the W&D prerelease? This would allow us to avoid a conflict with the GoT tournament that weekend. Let me know who wouldn't be able to make it.

W&D Pre-release:

Ok, so we talked a little about this last weekend, but let's go ahead and get this hashed out for realz. Memorial Day might be an option, although the store will be under limited hours, so it might turn out that Sunday, May 25 will work better. Who all can make it Sunday, Monday, or both days, so I can get a general idea of what would make for a better turn-out? Not sure about the price yet; I'll have to talk with Jerod about that one.

1pt everytime Personalty enters play

5pt for 3 chosen personality in play at end of game
1pt for every destroyed providence
1pt for every 10 honor above your starting honor
1pt for every ring in play at end of game

Depending on what clan gets the most points what you can play changes!

I'm liking the idea of the June events; they sound like a lot of fun. I'll leave it Jerod to explain more about them though.

As for the W&D pre-release, it will be Monday, May 26 at 2:00. How much are we charging for this one, Jerod?

So for the peasant constructed can we use the Peasant Stronghold that was in Ling's Kokujin book at last years Gencon?

I don't know about the Peasant Stronghold but it seems theme appropriate!

It is theme appropriate, however, it isn't a real card just one somebody made up. It would rock if I could use it though lol.

I would like clarification on the No Rares thing though. because I Moto Chagatai Exp. 4 from KD is a rare, but the Full Bleed version is a Kotei Promo. So can the promo version be used but not the rare one?

How easy was the promo version to get? Off hand I'd say that any card that was at one point Rare. It can't be played.

How about fixed cards? For example, everything in the Emerald & Jade Champions set, or fixed cards from starters.

Fixed are OK. Everyone has (had) access to them at a nominal fee.

Fixed are okay... does that mean promos are okay? Sorry gotta ask... if I'm facing Sozen exp 2 with no possibility of Determination, Control, Etsui, and about 20 other Rare only ways of getting him out of play I at least want to have some minimal opportunity to deal with that F****r.

Honestly, I'd have to vote for no DTP, COTM, UCP, Fixed, or Promo cards at all. If it ain't got a circle or a diamond for a rarity symbol I'd think it would be right out. The whole idea of peasants being that they are peasants... not an uber-bomb version of a card that gets around the rarity issue by being a better version of the original that happens to have been released in a DTP set. Not to mention if we include Fixed cards that means The Khan makes it in every deck. Then we have to also deal with the problem that 4 of the Clans have a huge leg up in that they have the UCPs open to them while the other 5 do not. Then there's also the problem of Fixed cards from previous sets that are now rare (Shinjo's Courage, Brothers in Arms Exp, and Gisei Toshi being the biggies).

If we allow Promos then we have Cartographers, Clan Standards, Venerable Masters, Minting House, Sneak Attack, all of the current COTM things, A New Wall, I Am Ready, Winter Storm, Wedge, House of the Fallen Blossom, Kitsune Den, and Shrine to Osana-Wo)

(Sorry Seth, but it'd be like me pitching for Venerable Master, Cartographers, I Am Ready, and House of the Fallen Blossom because they were promo/fixed cards that later were made into a Rare in the Samurai Arch... and yes, I have promo versions of the cards Smile

). Essentially, with Fixed and Promos allowed I can basically play my current Lion build minus the SS and Unshakes which, while it would suck, would mean I'm still playing with all of my rares... just promo/fixed versions of them, which is a huge advantage.

In short, my belief... U or C... no F/P/R.

Perhaps we should allow fixed cards only if they came in a starter. Otherwise that will rule out clan strengths, clan champions, and clan armours.

I agree that E&JC should be out.

Yeah, I thought about that after the fact as well... I could see a starters only fixed rule to enable Strengths and Strongholds.

Hey now... I don't usually buy anything I haven't preordered on release day. I still haven't decided on buying boxes of W&D or not.... I'm really torn on spending the money on a non-dual bugged set that won't be legal in a year. I've considered just buying singles... or if one or two people wanted to go in on 2-3 boxes and draft rares while splitting the commons/uncommons that are clan specific for the clans each of us plays.

There are some definite cards I want for my Lion and Scorpion decks, but cost versus length of use is kind of an issue for me... always thinking value Very Happy

Technically the cards will still be legal in a year. They most likely wont rotate out arcs until July or August of next year. Smile

Unfortunately I didn't realize this sooner but the Peasant tournament is the same weekend as Weekend O' Buffy. So Andy and I aren't going to be there. i don't know if Eric will attempt to forge his way down there or not.

I will definitely make the draft... as long as nothing comes up. lol

Alright here's how it's going down.

NO fixed cards except clan holdings (AND only clan holdings that have come out in a set, NOT holdings from promos or send-aways).

Seeing as we are holding the "pre-release" after the dates I'll have Words & Deeds for sale.

Not having talked to anyone, I have a feeling that this is likely to be our next big event. So, that makes either Sat Sept. 13 or 20 the most likely candidates. What are you all thinking?

Dunno... I'm about as unexcited about THW as I can be about the last non-dual bugged set.

Outside of the new Lion Box and whatever exp peep we get, meh.

So, the pre-release is Sept. 20, but now the question is what time should we start? I'd say the earliest is 1:00 p.m., with the latest being whenever you guys are comfortable with, although I for one would be more inclined to start closer to noon than later.

While normally I would be fine with that start time I have a class that doesn't finish til 1 pm in CR. I would like to play, however if more of you perfer the earlier start time then play on without me.
