I thought I'd post a few ideas about how to deal with models that can be very hard to handle in a game. All models have a weakness, except maybe Vlad, but even he can be dealt with. I have a list of models that have been headaches to deal with.
1. High Paladin Dartan Vilmon. This guy is awesome. He makes other Paladins really good, and while in Impervious wall he is immune to many types of attacks. He can only be damaged by Magic Attacks or by feats. He doesn't suffer damage or the effects of any other attack, even slams won't move him or knock him down.
Solutions:
Knock him down with spells. He can't run after being knocked down, and that slows him way down.
Keep an Arc Node handy and just shoot him with a ranged spell that does 12 to 15 damage.
Several models can count their attacks as magical, or can give that ability to other models. Include one of them in your army for Vilmon (or Incorporeal models).
Alexia Ciannor is a great way to kill Vilmon if you can get her close enough to him. She can sacrifice Risen until he's dead. This tactic in particular makes it more difficult to use Martyrdom on him, as she can make a LOT of attacks.
Master Holt and Lady Aiyana. Use Lurynsar's Touch on Holt and just shoot Vilmon.
Units that are immune to free strikes. Vilmon doesn't normally charge, and if you are immune to free strikes, just walk away. If he does charge, have a unit close by to run him down.
2. Alexia Ciannor. This woman is hard to deal with. She is effectively a second warcaster for all intents and purposes. She can sacrifice Risen for a variety of things, boosting to hit, taking extra attacks, hitting incorporeal/magic attack only targets, and she can raise the dead.
Solutions:
Keep units away from her. She is not as tough as a warcaster, and can be easily killed by ranged or magic attacks. She likes to hide behind her risen, so spray attacks or AOE attacks are also great against her. Master Holt with Lady Aiyana can also easily kill her.
3. Holt and Aiyanna. This duo is a pain to deal with. There are a few tricks that can get around Invisibility, however.
Solutions:
Spray attacks that target other models can hit them while invisible. AOE's that target another model can also do the same. Siege Brisbane's Ground Pounder attack is another good way to kill them. They have low armor, so anything POW 12 or higher will probably one-shot them. Chain Lightning, Ashes to Ashes and similar non-targeting spells are also very useful here. Walk a Heavy Warjack into melee (or run), then target it with Chain Lightning or Ashes to Ashes.
Eiryss. The non-epic version is now fairly easy to deal with. Since Prime, many solos have been released which ignore most of what makes her hard to hit. Stealth is still her biggest asset. Even if you can't ignore her stealth, you can send something at her that she can't hope to kill. That will force her to displace, and sometimes that alone is enough. Sometimes I find that Eiryss' greatest strength is in drawing away part of your forces to deal with her. If she is being used evasively, this is probably her goal. If she is being used aggressively, then she is worth the hassle of running her to ground.
The Epic Version of her is very hard to kill reliably. Unless you have a way of knocking her down, I wouldn't risk casting a spell at her. If you roll the double 1, you could be taking a huge hit on your warcaster. That is bad. The best way to take her out is with non-magic, non-warlock units.
Please feel free to share other creative solutions you have found in any of your games. _________________ Groomie
